FRIENDS FROM FRANCE (Les Interdits) by Anne Weil and Philippe Kotlarski (France/Germany/Russia, 2013, 100 min.) shows today as part of the MFA’s 17th annual Jewish Film Festival. In Soviet Era Odessa a young pair of French Jews try smuggling items for oppressed Refuseniks and must contend with intrigue of both the romantic and espionage varieties. In French and Russian with English subtitles.
Just ahead of this film will be a showing of PUR by Anat Vovnoboy (Israel, 2013, 13 min.) a documentation of dissident staging of traditional Jewish “purim plays” in Soviet Russia.
