Dwelling in the Pacific Northwest, sound artist Daniel Menche has had plenty of opportunities to sleep under a blanket of thick clouds, old growth trees, and haunting choruses of howling wolves. Menche decided to approach his fascination with this natural wonder on Vilke, one of a pair of new releases out this month. For this new work, Menche was able to record the wolves in full swing during a rare night at the Oregon zoo. Vilke presents listeners with a massive interpretation of this sound. Menche runs the wolf chorus through his full arsenal of effects processing, tastefully expanding the monolithic qualities of such a majestic natural phenomenon.
