Swedish band ALLVARET aren’t exactly a household name yet, but with the release of their new LP (co released by P. Trash Records and Erste Theke Tonträger Records) they’ll be on their way to sharing their brand of Scandinavian punk with the world. ALLVARET means “serious” in Swedish, and in this video for “Tänk på döden”, the band appears, well, serious. This definitely isn’t party punk, there is a sense of urgency and maybe a little darkness in their sound. According to the P. Trash website, this song is about “tryin not to have regrets. To be tired of tryin so damned hard all the time ..when the only thing sure in life is death.” The rest of their songs have similarly bleak themes, however you won’t feel completely devastated after listening to this album. At times they really remind me of X-Ray Spex, but mostly they sound so obviously Scandinavian, following in the footsteps of bands like MASSHYSTERI. As P. Trash puts it, their guitar parts “can only be written by Swedish guys”, I can’t think of any other way to describe it either. Don’t know what I mean? Check out the video!
