Somebody handed me a pink CDR of the SHOCKED MINDS album outside of a FOSTER CARE show at the Hotel Vernon in Worcester earlier this year. Josh Martin, who plays in FOSTER CARE and EX-HUMANS, is the frontman of SHOCKED MINDS, and you may remember him as being a member of the almighty CARBONAS. Since their demise a few years back, this now legendary garage punk powerhouse has spawned quite the family tree, in fact someone should really map one out because it takes too damn long to explain every branch. I have found, though, that if you even have a remote love for the poppy grimey garagey 77 sound that CARBONAS did so well, you’ll probably be a fan of anything that rose from their ashes. SHOCKED MINDS are no exception. There’s only one song available to the masses right now but I can assure you that the rest of the record is great. “Confusion” is the perfect preview, tons of riffs and even more snarling snotty attitude, all neatly packed into less than two minutes. Set to come out on HOZAC soon.
GO TO: Not a Pretty Picture (1976) dir. Martha Coolidge
Plus three other classics!
I remember Josh Martin of the Carbonas as a racist, a rapist and a statutory rapist
I also remember Josh Martin bragging about how he crippled a man while on tour overseas with the Carbonas or one of his other shitty bands and fled the country to avoid arrest, and true or not, a story like that speaks volumes about exactly what type of piece of shit Josh Martin is in addition to being a racist and a rapist
