Well here it is: Wednesday. For the 9-5er working stiffs, today is that proverbial hump day that signifies passing the halfway point to the weekend and sweet sweet relief. But that thinking is plain dumb – with so much awesome happening throughout this city each night, you need not wait till Saturday to enjoy yourself. Take this show at ZuZu’s TONIGHT.

A couple of fantastic female-fronted bands from Boston’s environs descend on Central Square to get those hips a-shaking. Featuring members of horny activist punks Downtown Boys, Providence’s MALPORTADO KIDS take on that classic cumbia sound, throw it into a blender with chopped electronics and snotty punk caliente attitude, and out comes a juicy admixture of tropical pump-up grooves. They’re joined by Worcester’s favorite new wave adherents SECRET LOVER, who channel Debbie Harry drawn-out croon and shifty-eyed pop that swirls and bubbles like so much melted butter on the stove.

Between these sultry stalwarts and deep cut punk funk grooves of the FREAK FLAG crew, and you got yourself a midweek party. Just one question remains: are you ready to dance?
