Our buddies over at Eye Design have put together a show TONIGHT at Roggie’s that could warm up even that cold ol’ soul of YOURS to the idea of a clear, summer night-on-the-town in the city of Boston. If you make the wise decision to come out to this sweet show, your body (and spiritual) temperature will rise smoothly to the jangle-y jams of Northampton headliners Orca Orca, who have been dreaming up pop for Allston’s Disposable America since last summer. Their most recent batch of songs for that label, put out this past March, included some slightly more expanded canvases upon which tightly-wound melodies were splashed with much the same rhythmic bounce as previous, super catchy releases. Delicate tunes with subtly unfolding depths that will put a nice little dance in your step for the rest of the weekend.
Giving their own, more angular and atmospheric take on guitar-driven pop Skinny Bones are some of the finest folk-song-collage-alchemists in the land. Thankfully, they happen to call Jamaica Plain their home, continually pushing this city of ours to consider acoustic and electronic music anew. Their debut LP, last month’s “Noise Floor,” is a must-listen for anyone interested in breaking down boundaries between musical dichotomies. For sound freaks and folky folks alike.
Traveling up from Orlando, Florida to add some out-of-state flavor to the bill is rock’n’roll-fueled, two-piece pop duo, SALES. With a springy, electronic rythmic backbone, you can dig on their drum machine marches or choose to simply let-it-all-go with the help of vocalist Lauren Morgan’s soft and soulful delivery.
Opening things up tonight will be local Boston pop-gazers Funeral Advantage. Tyler Kershaw’s expanded lineup now takes his beautifully constructed bedroom gems and shines some live light on their undeniable melodic power. His 2013 demo, also courtesy of Allston’s Disposable America, glows softly from start-to-finish with a flair for addictive doses of layered guitar and synth work.
This show is bringing together some of New England’s dreamiest pop song writers with a truly innovative duo from out of state as well, and all on a Friday Night! So embrace that summer fever, or sun stroke, or whatever, and come do something FUN with your EYE DESIGN friends!!
