EL TEN ELEVEN + ELIOT LIPP @ THE SINCLAIR

by

Picture this in your head: one dude plays a crazy cool double-necked guitar-bass combo, effortlessly combing a melody and looping his own creations on the fly, whilst his buddy lays down beats on a full drum kit. This, essentially, is El Ten Eleven. If you’ve never seen this band live, you are in for a serious treat TONIGHT at the Sinclair in Cambridge. While the word “prodigy” gets tossed around a lot in reviews these days, that’s exactly what these two musicians are– they way they can produce a flawless piece of music that sounds like it’s straight from the studio is nothing short of amazing. Their tunes are generally in the instrumental/ambient/post rock/”makes you have revelations about yourself” vein; I often file El Ten Eleven around the same place in my brain as Tycho. Check out the live vid below or scope out their latest full-length, Transitions (Fake), if you want a glimpse of the El Ten Eleven experience.

Eliot Lipp, who is very much a prodigy in his own right, opens the show. Having been championed by Scott Herren of Prefuse 73, Lipp is a master music mixologist (translation: electronic DJ) who has a way with hip-hop and glitches. Hot damn, this guy is the real deal, and watching him do his thing in Cambridge tonight will be seriously awesome.
