Take a night off from power chords––go get shaken up at the first show of Debo Band’s four-week-Thursday-nights residency at The Lizard Lounge. There’s a very good chance this is the best seventies’ funk/Ethiopian pop brass band you’ve ever heard. Their self-titled album (out on Next Ambience, Sub Pop’s world music label) was produced by Gogol Bordello’s Tommy T Gobena. And trust me––that comes through. It’s intricate music over grooves you lock right into. They’ll be using this residency to try out new material, so go shake your rump with these wild groove riders.
