CHECK IT: BENT SHAPES

We have been keeping a close watch on these guys for awhile now. After becoming known as one of Boston’s best pop bands, GIRLFRIENDS chose to start all over in 2012 as BENT SHAPES and it’s continued to be nothin’ but good. Take, for example, their newest flexi disc, Panel of Experts. These are surely the two best songs we’ve heard from this crew so far, and they bode well for the group’s fresh trajectory as Bent Shapes (see also a stellar demo from earlier this year HERE). The disc boasts well-written, infectious garage-rockin’ indie pop that isn’t as soft as that genre so often is. Upbeat, no-frills grooves, dreamy textures, sweet melodies and classy harmonies are all captured in a warm, yet punchy fashion. It’s the kind of catchy-ass sass this crew has been known for, only taken to the next level, and  necessitating repeated listens. Seriously, the interplay between “Panel of Experts” and “Bites and Scratches” will have you wearing this beautiful blue flexi out in no time. Better do yourself a favor and get the first play dubbed to tape, cause before you know it, the thing will be worn down to nothing but a thin little sheet of plastic. But even then the flexi will continue to serve a purpose: acting as testament to a new band that is surely going to continue bringing the world many, many righteous jams in the future. BUY THIS, another little piece of evidence that good songs will not stop poppin outta Boston.
