The great Chan Marshall of Cat Power (Matador) will be performing solo after many years of relative quiet. Shaking off a bit of the sweet contemplative songwriter sheen, Marshall moves towards biker riffs driven pop with contemplative dance beats and her signature dark-and-smooth voice to make something simultaneously energizing and haunting. Opening for her is Nico Turner, another superstar of the experimental-punk world, and if this show is anything like the rest of this duo’s tour then you’re in for a treat! Turner layers pulsating downtempo beats, sustained synth, and reverb-tinged vocals with dark droning guitar riffs: the result is nothing short of mesmerizing.
