Wise-beyond-years downtempo beatsmith Doug Appling, aka Emancipator (Portland, OR), is known for layering oceanic melodies with hip-hop grooves. Touring for his latest LP, Dusk to Dawn (Loci Records), Appling’s project has evolved to form the 4-piece Emancipator Ensemble, which includes drums, bass and violin, giving his instrumental-heavy production a vital live representation. Fortunately for you, the Boston-based music collective Brain Trust will be hosting the group TONIGHT at the Paradise!  For this final stretch of tour, before they take a quick break and head westward, the group is joined by the Pacific Northwest-based chilled-wave duo Odesza and Oakland-based synth-pop vocalist Real Magic.
