HOLY HELL what a show! Get ready to get royally fuzzed because Boston Fuzzstival 2013 is chock full of the grooviest, scratchiest local acts. Ghost Box Orchestra cranks out spacey, reverb-doused boot-stompers that will make your insides shake with awe, and The New Highway Hymnal (Vanya Records) tracks frenzied screams over psych riffs that would make any acid-enthusiast-gone-biker proud. CreaturoS (pRIMORDIAL sOUNDS) sling that jangly 60s sound with gloriously gritty abandon, and Guillermo Sexo venture out of the same vein into sleazy melodic circles. Darker melodies possess Moniker and pull them into shifty drumbeats and spiraling guitar riffs, but it’s that twisty, sticky-sweet 60s stuff that revs The Fagettes‘ (Stimulation Addict) motors. ‘Brash and trashy’ is the name of the game with Nice Guys – the sound is anything but friendly and nothing short of enjoyable – and Doze rides a doomy wave of thick, overdriven post-punk jams. Get yourself to the Middle East and gorge your ears on this showcase of freaky fuzz!
