A group of ambitious Mass Art students are bringing the vibes tonight. Boston’s Blkbx, aka Black Box Theory, has been making experimental pop on the downlow for a couple of years. His Myalgia EP, released digitally on Chicago’s Black Jungle Squad in 2013, was a minimalist post-rock/pop effort informed by hip-hop, dance, and electronic experimentation in a similar vein as UK outfit Hood. He’s joined by friend and collaborator SAX, a vocalist and MC with an ear for eclectic, jazz-informed sonic backdrops. The Godine Family Gallery will be hosting the event, and there will be refreshments and a flow of R&B, soul, and jazz to set the mood for the whole night. Accompanying the abstract stylings of Blkbx and SAX will be abstract visuals from fellow undergrad SAMO and lightning design by Mass Art graduate Kerri Coburn. RSVP here, bring some friends, and get weird.
