Sunday funday! Take a trip out down the Merrimack River to the town of Lowell, where Whitehaus Family Records’ weeklong love-in BLASTFEST 7 continues at 119 Gallery.
Tonight’s festivities include another bevy of experimental-minded performers, here oriented towards free improv and electro-acoustic quadrants of the New England avant-guard network. Experience wizened old standbys jam hard and fast (or slow and soft) with young racket-rousers. Western Mass open noise freakazoids EGG EGGS flip lids with bowed metal and a splattering of keys, ukele and dementia. Angela Sawyer (electronics, voice), Steve Norton (reeds) and Jesse Kenas Collins (trumpet) combine forces as Wash & Gouache, implying perhaps some plastered sound collage. Matt Samolis (flute) and Thadd Comstock (guitar) create a dreamlike fission as Duo Tyto Alba. Dei Xhrist (Birdorgan) and Marc Bisson explore dark spectral realms with found object noise. Current Whitehaus cats Erich Haygun, Con Tex and ARKM Foam represent the deep JP feels with gongs and woodwinds. Haygun will be performing his poetry, as will Lowell residents Ricky Orng and Princess Chan.
These amazing combos just keep going – with many of the above artists forming and reforming into different, mesmerizing sonic configurations, exploring old relationships and growing new ones – in true Blastfest tradition
New combos; old friends. All good.
