We need to stand together and fight for what’s right at this crucial juncture in our country’s history. Young minds are clearly in need of escape, and the work of Liberation Library in Chicago is more imperative than ever. Boston’s Katie McShane has turned her recurring Monthly Fem Night this February into a benefit to support this radical library, which provides books to incarcerated youth. For over a year now, the showcase at the Midway in JP has been helping to draw attention to stellar fem-identified artists, performers, and musicians from the Boston area and beyond. The lineup for this month’s benefit features the groove-inducing Boston electro-pop trio Citrusphere—boundary pushing 80’s pop for the modern world—and McShane’s new project Custom Drummer featuring Matt Delligatti, Jesse Heasly, and Jon Nankof, plus hypnotic, multi-instrumental compositions by Abby Swidler—straight off a 1920’s Parisian street corner—as well as the hauntingly complex yet comforting living room rock of Gia Greene. It’s an eclectic menu of people who GET IT. And what’s more? This may be your last chance: it was recently announced that Monthly Fem Night will be coming to an end in the upcoming weeks.
