The pop doesn’t stop TONIGHT at TT the Bear’s, as four of Boston’s brightest chord lovers spill their guts within elegant, emotive musical structures. The veteran of this show is BENT SHAPES – led by witty and cuttin’ Ben Potrykus, the group spits out a thumping, jumping jangle buoyed by a sharp, riotous energy and intelligent (and intelligible) lyrics. They welcome three relative newcomers with comprable bite. Jillian Medford leads 3-piece IAN with soaring odes angst, uncertainty and disappointment in relationships (a perennial pop theme), delivered with sling-shot energy that cuts straight to the heart. Erica Sutherland leads LITTLEFOOT to similar themes, but within a smoother, ambling pace and instrumntation more rooted in pure americana blues. The two BUFU bands are set to embark on a quick tour of the Northeast to promote new releases, so cop a tape while you can. WAKES rounds out this solid show with rollicking surf-inspired sounds couples with introspective lamentations.
When top 40 radio is dominated supercharged sugary EDM throbbers, the traditional rock-pop format has been taken back by the streets and imbued with emotional authenticity once again. But don’t take our word on it – see for yourself!
