Show some love for sustainable, local business practices while rocking out to Boston’s iconic, cerebral post-punks Mission of Burma over at the Regent Theatre in Arlington for a Somerville Local First benefit concert TONIGHT!
Mission of Burma have been crafting their singular combination of angular guitars, tape loops, and driving rhythms, carving out a niche for other legendary American noise rock forerunners such as Sonic Youth and the Pixies. Whether you’re familiar with their storied past or not, missing their set would be a mistake of historic proportions. Burma drummer Peter Prescott will also be stepping out for a solo set under his Minibeast moniker, bringing a swirling mass of samples wrung from his absorbent mind straight to the audience’s ears in a groove-filled fashion. Genre touchstones include, but are certainly not limited to, psych, easy listening, punk, 60’s children’s music, and soundtracks. Quincy-bred stompers Bugs and Rats will be opening up the night with some raw and rumbling punk. They rock abrasively but with a minimalist’s taste for efficiency – an entrancing combination that may find its roots in the pioneering efforts of this evening’s headliners. With all three of these acts bringing their loopy, noise-y innovation to the stage in support of fair and local business, catching this show is a no-brainer.
