Somewhere at the aural crossroads of shoegaze and garage rock, you’ll find BEAT AWFULS perched comfortably atop their throne of lo-fi, shuffle inducing jams. With a discography spanning across a plethora of tempos, riffs, and production elements, the one constant with this band is their refreshingly simple arrangements. Not to be mistaken for lazy arrangements, Beat Awfuls’ tracks are perfectly tight, without needing to hide behind layers and layers of unnecessary melodies. But Beat Awfuls are just one of four quality acts playing Central TONIGHT. CREATUROS, whose more direct approach to garage rock is still slightly off-kilter thanks to the touch of sprawling psychedelic rock they infuse into each track. CHRIS WARREN is the definite wildcard in this lineup; his tried and true folk tunes fit with the night’s effortless musical stylings, but he definitely gets there via a different route thanks to his chosen genre. Jesse Gallagher’s NIGHTIME SUNSHINE take Creaturos’ psychedelic vibes and amplifies them tenfold with their cosmic folk pop productions.
