There are lots of “posts” in the world: the post office, postmortems, post war periods in history. But perhaps the best kind of “post” is post rock. This holds especially true if you’re talking about New Jersey band Au Revoir‘s dissonant yet strangely soothing instrumental approach to the subgenre. The band takes post rock and leads it down a more ambient path, creating soundscapes that drift through speakers, ultimately enveloping the entire room. And this is exactly what you can expect from Au Revoir tonight when they headline a show at the Democracy Center in Cambridge. Come ready for big sounds, cascading melodies, and booming harmonies, all complete with the band’s trademark crescendoing climaxes.
Joining them on the lineup is Capacities, whose guttural hardcore style is a complete sonic 180 from Au Revoir. These guys are here to get you flailing, thrashing, and wailing along to their aggressive tunes. With that said, there’s something great about having such diverse auditory options all in one night. Consider tonight’s show at the Democracy Center a buffet of sounds that will most definitely leave your ears full.
