APRIL COMPASS: Notes From the Crew

by

Wow. We just put up a whiteboard, a chalkboard, AND a corkboard at the office, and I think I can hear them talking to each other. My name is Tony, BRAIN Art’s newest intern, and when I’m not putting up all kinds of boards, I help book the Hassle gigs. I’m too stoked to share with you what we have in store for April, so sit down!

To kick off the month on April 2nd at Dorchester Art Project, solo bass wonder, Solei (also known as Brain Arts’ very own creative director, Emma Leavitt), is playing a show with experimental saxophonist Rob Magill and left-field piano pop outfit, Teer. Later that week, don’t miss out the best country and soul party in town, Jesus Drinks Free, on April 5th at Jeanie Johnston Pub (PS it’s sponsored by Lagunitas, ie your favorite beer). Primitive folk band from Oregon, Die Geister Beschwören, along with some of our favorite Boston local songwriters, Sundog and Brittle Brian, are playing at Blue Bag Records in Cambridge on April 6th. On April 7th is an event I’m most excited for: the opening reception for “Can’t You See How Hard I’m Working?”—a group art show celebrating the many artists who diligently work within the caverns of the DAP studios. And that’s only the first week! As always, don’t miss out on our Black Market on April 15th, the best place to get homemade bone necklaces and subversive collage art in the same room. A few more shows you cannot miss: a post-punk dinger with Preening, The Electrician, and Thighs on April 16th at DAP; an experimental electronic gig, featuring the legend Eric Copeland, April 18th at DAP; FEED THE PUNKS (THE punk party) April 19th at JJ; american primitive and noise night on April 19th at DAP; Dreamscape 14, a celestial celebration of meditative music and visuals at Hope Central Church, April 21st; and lastly, a trash-jazz experimental punk show, headlined by New York’s Parlor Walls, on April 28th at First Church Somerville. cu at the gig ofc !!!!
