TONIGHT at the Cracker Barrel the folks at Applejam Productions, Tufts’ DIY booking collective are putting on a killer show featuring locals and beyond. Perhaps by now you’ve heard of western MA buzz band Potty Mouth, but if you haven’t, this quartet traffics in a style forged from Buzzcockian punk-pop filtered through an early 90’s guitar pop lens with just the right amount of shambling C86 influences thrown in there. Joining them are local favorites Kal Marks, who blend far-out and heavy sounds with emotionally affecting vocals and a fantastically unique songwriting approach – resulting in an adventurous and idiosyncratic take on your classic noise-pop. Also joining them are Virginia’s self-described “trance punk” trio Malatese, whose no-wave influenced thrashing and bashing is fiery as can be. And finally are locals DB Cooper, whose fast, melodic punk sports heavy Husker Du and Jawbreaker influences. And if you’re not convinced, the show is absolutely FREE.
