(3/21 – 3/24) GRAND PIANO (2013) DIR. EUGENIO MIRA @BRATTLE

by

This weekend the Brattle Theater is presenting the new thriller by up and coming director Eugenio Mira. GRAND PIANO stars Elijah Wood as a concert pianist whose newly developed stage fright causes him to have a break down during a performance. Years later he returns to the stage to find he has a new fan that warns him that if he plays one wrong note, he will die. The whole film is set around this intense performance, think PHONE BOOTH but with John Cusack instead of Kiefer Sutherland with the finger on the trigger.  Speaking of Kiefer Sutherland, this film also features one of his THE LOST BOYS co-stars, Alex Winter aka Bill S. Preston Esquire. While the film may have its flaws in plot and character, the overall story is treated with great mastery by Eugenio Mira, who has puts all of his previous experience to use here. Having previously been a camera operator, producer, writer, actor, and composer, he puts all his knowledge to work to help craft a really tight thriller taking off from the work of Hitchcock and later De Palma.
