Hands down one of the most talked about shows outside of Boston this past Spring was New York-based artist Kara Walker’s monumental installation A Subtlety, or the Marvelous Sugar Baby, an Homage to the unpaid and overworked Artisans who have refined our Sweet tastes from the cane fields to the Kitchens of the New World on the Occasion of the demolition of the Domino Sugar Refining Plant. Housed in Brooklyn’s legendary 30,000-square foot Domino Sugar Factory, 35 tons of sugar were transformed into a massive 35-foot tall hypersexualized sugar-coated Sphynx-like woman. If you were one of the 130,000 people to pass through this temple-like space during its 9-week span, you might have a few questions. If you’re lucky enough to make it into tonight’s talk, Kara may have some answers as Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute welcomes her for a little sweet talk. Be sure to show up early as space is limited and guaranteed to fill up fast!
