Tasmania’s NATIVE CATS understand the vibes and grooves put out there by some of their pop end of the spectrum post-punk forebears. In listening to their music I sometimes end up thinking of YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS, but that’s just one jumping off point for this strange pop duo from the other end of the earth(from us here in Boston). They will have obviously travelled very far to be with us on 9/21 in Somerville. Take the opportunity to see one of Australia’s great contemporary underground bands. They come bearing a brand new 7″, a split with another great Australian band UV RACE. Australian rock and related music has just been so great in the last few years, and NATIVE CATS are a sweet example of this, and perhaps a starting point for interested but uninitiated listeners. BOSTON HASSLE and B.O.W. SHOWS is throwing this show in tandem with the great RIDE THE SNAKE Records, who also is based out of Cambridge and has released records by NATIVE CATS, including that new split that you can buy at the show! The jangling indie pop/riot grrrl-isms of POTTY MOUTH(from w. mass and ALSO releasing a new record tonight!), line up alongside the great also jangly pop of own CUFFS, the jangly yet droning garage rock of REPORTS, and the hardcore psychedelic guitar savagery of MAJOR STARS to make this a very important show. GO.
