The adage “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is alive (or undead) in director Bill Lustig’s second installment of the immensely entertaining MANIAC COP franchise. After decoding Davy Jones’ locker combo, hulking ex-NYPD supercop Matthew Cordell (Robert Z’dar, “Face” from TANGO AND CASH) resumes his Voorheesian warpath on New York City streets to bring to justice the cops, judges, and inmates that had him framed and left for dead. Only this time he’s partnered up with a creepy, sycophantic serial killer (and Charlie Manson lookalike). Foregoing the whodunit suspense as well as softening the thematic probing of police brutality and social unrest that made MANIAC COP a taut, intelligent slasher flick, MANIAC COP 2 goes straight for the jugular, blending spectacular stunts and car chases with hilariously ironic and violent deaths. Not to mention a Danny Trejo cameo and one of the best end credit rap anthems ever. Not enough for you? Cult auteur Bill Lustig (MANIAC, VIGILANTE) will be live and in person at the screening! If you happen to believe that A.C.A.B., wait’ll you get a load of MANIAC COP 2!
