When I bring up NECW events people ask if this is real wrestling. All wrestling is real. NECW General Manager Paul Richard’s shirt says it all: believe or leave.

This Saturday in Beverely (Hills) at the Cove Community Center, New England Championship Wrestling is hosting Iron 8. For the uninitiated: Iron 8 consists of 4 one on one matches with the four winners then meeting in a Fatal Fourway where the four winners compete head-to-head-to-head-to-head in a forty-five minute match wrestling for the most pinfalls. You never lose, but grapple for victory points. The winner of Iron 8 gets a match against the NECW Heavyweight Champ. Got it?

“The Masshole” Mike McCarthy is a star, or more accurately a black hole. Having lost in Double Intensity at Everett’s Rec Center his only shot at the NECW Heavyweight Title is to win Iron 8. First he must get past Genesis. “The Canadian Giant” Genesis looks like a player, but performs like a corpse. Leading up to Iron 8 McCarthy has taken to literally spelling out his intentions for the NECW Heavyweight Championship. McCarthy is metaphorically calling out number one contender Slyck Wagner Brown and the herd of sheeple he leads with simple identifying gestures and an easy to digest nickname, S-W-B. Expect The Masshole to be involved up to the very end this Saturday.

In the other qualifying matches, Todo Loco and former NECW tag team champion Nick Farenheight figure to have strong matches against touring circuit wrestlers “The Pure Talent” Chris Escobar and Syracuse’s Brandon Thurston. The final qualifying match pitches cod pieced heel “Sensational” Scott “Who the Man” Levesque against fast rising rookie All Day “All Good” Anthony Greene. At Everett Rec Center, Levesque won the NECW Television Championship with the help of Miss Sammi Lane. Green returned to NECW for Double Intensity, winning over the crowd and Glamour Express’s Buddy Romano.

After the qualifying matches, Brad Hollister will defend his NECW Heavyweight belt against Slyck Wagner Brown. Undefeated Slyck returned from a knee injury headlining Double Intensity with McCarthy. For his first match in eleven month,s former NECW Heavyweight champ SWB looked like the returning hero. Whoever comes out of the NECW Heavyweight Championship match will have The Masshole spitting down their neck. Opening bell for Iron 8 is set for 7:00.
