Ty Segall takes it mostly down a notch on this moving up the food chain rocker of a record released by DRAG CITY recently. More distorted and fuzzy guitars and vocals give way to mostly acoustic guitars and the cleanest vocals heard on a Ty Segall record yet. The melodies remain though. And they are out in abundance on GOODBYE BREAD. “California Commercial” is a short, snarky(mocking?) ode to his home state. “I Can’t Feel It” is a down right anthemic stomper.  Hand claps and acoustic guitars. Big sing along melody. And a sweet guitar riff outro. No secrets as to why people love this guy. “My Head Explode” finally brings out some big distortion, noisiness, and faster tempos. There’s another louder rocker or two, but in the end this comes off as a gentle pop record. There’s no doubt Ty Segall will gain more fans with this record. And he deserves them! Man can write a hook.
