G.L.O.S.S. — Demo

by

The hardest, toughest, meanest hardcore-punk demo of 2015 may already be here and it’s femme, trans-inclusive, and queer as hell. G.L.O.S.S. (aka Girls Living Outside Society’s Shit) are based in Olympia and feature members of some old Boston bands including PARASOL and PEEPLE WATCHIN’, but the sound is much fiercer and noisier and more explosive than anything either of those bands ever accomplished.

The G.L.O.S.S. demo is pure hardcore rage, sometimes leaning D-beat, other times more classic US hardcore, with lyrics that tackle headlong the simmering frustrations of being a genuine outcast. While these frustrations are sometimes born of normal, “straight” society (the desire not to be “straight and repressed/emotions grotesque/ready for war and the cubicle desk”), they are just as often a product of the macho, male-dominated DIY hardcore scene itself, with lyrics declaring that “the straight male canon is a royal bore” and “trendy mutant skinheads can jerk themselves off.”

Let me be clear on this point: None of this seems like a gimmick, and it doesn’t feel in the slightest bit like an attempt to be confrontational just to draw attention to their band. The sentiments ring as honest and true as any I’ve heard in a long time, and the music will draw plenty of attention on its own. Their shit is FUCKING TIGHT. It would be a great first statement from a hardcore band composed entirely of straight white boys. But it’s an INCREDIBLE first statement because it isn’t that at all.

The G.L.O.S.S. demo is available now on Bandcamp and will be out on cassette soon via Not Normal Tapes
