One of the best noise punk acts going right now is Japan’s People. Playing music reminiscent of The SWANKYS/GAI, People have carved a name for themselves after a couple of demos and an EP over the last few years. 2012 saw the release of their first two albums, Fairy Tale released on DAMAGING NOISE RECORDS (originally as a cassette/CDr on the band’s FEMINIST RECORD) followed by Authentic Oral Communication on FEMINIST RECORD. Authentic Oral Communication finds the band at their best, with their chaotic attack positioning catchy, poppy riffs against highly restrained guitar feedback. Authentic Oral Communication’s production highlights this conflict with surprising subtlety. Fairy Tale is a much rawer album, and takes more influence from CONFUSE than the more UK77 sounding riffs of Authentic Oral Communication. Highest recommendation for fans of the genre and punk in general.
