Firewalker – Summer ’16 Promo Tape

by

Looking at the cover of FIREWALKER’s “Summer ’16 Promo Tape”, I fully expected the second coming of TEN YARD FIGHT. It’s a black and white drawing of a pair of Nike hi-tops surrounded by the band’s name written in the Red Sox font with “Boston” proudly displayed below. I was shocked when I pushed play and on the first of the two tracks, heard what sounded like SICK OF IT ALL with Jeff Walker from CARCASS singing! Late 80’s-ish hardcore (still fast but with some metal-tinged breakdowns (think right before every hardcore band decided to just sound like PANTERA)) with howling, guttural vocals on top. Really brutal stuff. If you’re more inclined to wear all black than a varsity jacket, FIREWALKER is your new favorite band. And after having just completed a summer tour with current hardcore darlings, G.L.O.S.S., they’re soon to be everyone else’s too. But, word of advice FIREWALKER, maybe throw in a skull or a pentagram on the cover of your next release so that people know what they’re in for!
