A different kind of streamer

THE STREAMER: Le Cinéma Club

Looking for something a little unpredictable? Le Cinéma Club is a curated global streaming platform that presents one film a week, for free! The Club usually presents a new film every Thursday – the length varies week to week. Some are five minutes, some are forty-five. Some may be longer still! No matter what, the films are thought-provoking and different from standard YouTube fare.

The best way to keep up is to sign up for the Club’s newsletter. All you have to do is enter your email on their main page and you’re part of the club! The Club’s Journal is also an amazing resource for essays, interviews, and film recommendations from some of the best directors in world film. Their most recent article has Kelly Reichardt recommending films such as Fat City and A Taste of Honey.

Overall, Le Cinéma Club is worth your attention for its clean website design and truly remarkable curation. Even if you don’t love the week’s offering, you only need to wait until next Thursday for a new surprise!

Streaming is no substitute for taking in a screening at a locally owned cinema, and right now Boston’s most beloved theaters need your help to survive. If you have the means, the Hassle strongly recommends making a donation, purchasing a gift card, or becoming a member at the Brattle TheatreCoolidge Corner Theatre, and/or the Somerville Theatre. Keep film alive, y’all.
