Anastasia Cazabon is an artist from Cambridge who currently lives in Berlin. She founded Grrl Haus Cinema in 2014 and continues to showcase short films by women filmmakers.
FILMS:
RAW (dir. Julia Ducournau)
A coming of age horror film about cannibals.
THE BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER (dir. Oz Perkins)
Suspenseful horror film about girls living at a boarding school. (Cool random fact – the director is the son of Anthony Perkins, aka Norman Bates!)
IT COMES AT NIGHT (dir. Trey Edward Shults)
Great thriller about a family trying to survive during a mysterious apocalypse.
GET OUT (dir. Jordan Peele)
So good! Although, I wish they recast the girl in it. (SPOILER) It was never a surprise she was gonna turn on him.
LADY BIRD (dir. Greta Gerwig)
I didn’t absolutely LOVE it like everyone else did, but it’s still a great film. Also, I felt I should have a non-suspense film in here 🙂
TV SHOWS THAT MADE ME MORE EXCITED THAN FILMS:
DARK (Netflix)
Can’t recommend this show enough. Really well done. A German tv show about missing children, an eerie forest and time travel. Like an adult version of Stranger Things.
TWIN PEAKS (Showtime)
Everyone knows about this amazing series, so I don’t really need to say anything about it.
SEARCH PARTY (TBS)
Super funny and tragic. The second season got pretty dark, but so good. John Early and Meredith Hagner def steal the show.
ART THAT I SAW: (I’m combining the end of 2016 for this one)
Anne Imhof at Hamburger Bahnhof. Amazing performance artist. She was just shown at the Venice Biennale. Apocalyptic young “health goth” people roam around while metal plays and drones fly.
Also Julian Rosefeldt’s Manifesto at Hamburger Bahnhof. If it’s ever screening near you in the original format (multi-channel screens) you should go see it!
And it was cool to see the iconic work of Barbara Krueger at Sprüth Magers. Also seeing Cindy Sherman’s work there earlier in the year.
MUSIC THAT CAME OUT:
Gracie – Heat of Sunday Morning. I listen to this album at least once a month.
PEOPLE THAT MADE ME LOL:
Trixie and Katya
Maria Bamford
INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS THAT I LOVE:
FAVORITE SHOWS THAT I WENT TO:
Black Angels at Huxleys Neue Welt
Angel Olsen at Heimathafen Neukolln
La Femme at Festival Pop-Kultur
Maia Ibar at GRRL HAUS, July 2017, Berlin 🙂
