What are you bringing to Black Market?
This time I’ll be bringing along some art prints, enamel pins, buttons, t-shirts and some other random items with my drawings on them. Maybe some Valentine’s Day cards?
Tell us about your favorite piece.
That’s tough. I think I’ve sold the most prints of the calculator that says “My life is a joke.” I’ll say that’s my favorite because it’s helped me pay rent more times than any other piece.
How did you get started with drawing?
I’ve been drawing for a long time. I come from a creative family so it was something that was always encouraged from very early on.
What materials do you use?
The prints that I bring to the markets are all scans of ink drawings, that I color digitally afterward. Pen and ink is my main medium, but I also use watercolors and acrylics for other pieces. I like to paint as much as I like to draw, but I don’t usually bring paintings along to the markets.
If you could describe your drawings with a song, what would it be?
That’s a good one. I think “I Hate Myself – …And Keep Reaching For Those Stars” sums up the sentiment pretty well.
What are some artists or makers that inspire you?
Ed Templeton’s artwork and photography has been a huge inspiration for me from a young age.
Why do you encourage people to shop local?
It’s so much better to buy something with a face attached to it. That’s why I love the Black Market. There are so many talented people putting a ton of effort into making interesting things to share with the people around them. Supporting passionate people around you is why it’s important to shop local.
Where can people learn more about your work?
Currently the best place to look at/ stay up to date with my stuff is on Instagram, which is @thankyou_sean. Also, at thankyousean.bigcartel.com I have some items up for sale.
