Worn Leather is a fairly recently formed garage-punk group from New Haven, CT, and their demo from earlier this year is a very solid piece of raw rock n’ roll. In their sound, you can hear elements of more recent melodic garage acts like Estrogen Highs or stuff from the Marked Men crew mixed in with some rawer elements that are more indebted to stuff like Teengenerate or Oblivians. All 7 of these songs are pretty strong, with slightly jangly distorted guitar and punchy bass. The high point for me is the 2nd track “Telling Lies,” which features some great poppy melodies along with some earworm guitar hooks. Also check out the last two tracks on the tape, “Be Alone” and “Picking Scabs”, both of which also showcase Worn Leather’s way with a melody. Be sure to catch them at a show some time, as they’ve only gotten better since this demo came out. You can stream or purchase the tape from Worn Leather’s bandcamp.
