Whoopi Sticks – We Are Spunk

by

Wham! The Whoopi Sticks jump in with this short but sweet ep. The finger style, mid heavy bass is the decedent foundation for the light, room sounding drums. The slick but still abrasive guitar strums right under the reverby/delayed vocals. I could feel the shear amount of angst in all of the lyrics. I could picture the singer going crazy and flailing there body around, keeping a live audience engaged. This ep took me back to a few punk demos from Washington D.C. I can smell some possible inspiration from the Teen Idles or even the early Bad Brains. In addition, I really enjoyed the tempo changes on Hedonist vs. The Subjunctive. The song flipped between complete anger and poppy sunshine. The contrast kept a grip on my musical leash for just under 2 minutes. I would love to be grooving and shouting in a small pit while seeing this band live. I highly encourage each and everyone of you to eat a whoopi pie and listen to this triple shot ep.
