ITS VIRTUE IS IMMENSE: A Pre-Vinylite Society Tribute to Script Lettering

Going to this show pretty much makes you want to go back to a time when hand-painted signs were commonplace (minus all the BS that came from not having google). The show is a celebration of script lettering, something beautiful with a practical application that is unfortunately an endangered species.

The signs were absolutely gorgeous. Script lettering is an art form that I particularly admire because of my own horrible handwriting. Each sign and letter brought something different to the table. The show is curated by Meredith Kasabian of Best Dressed Signs. She brought together some of the best hand-painted signs and their creators from far and wide.

Lot F Gallery itself is a gorgeous little nook of Boston at the top of a three story walk-up. The all-wood floors, beats provided by DJ Alan Manzi, and cheap beer provided for a welcoming and cozy opening.

The show runs until April 25th. Lot F is open Saturday noon-4PM all other showings are by appointment. It would be dumb not to get down there to check it out.

Artists include…

Ashley Fundora | Bob Dewhurst | Brian Kaspr | Carl “Frisso” Angell | Chris Dobell | Christian Cantiello | Colt Bowden | Cooper | Corinna D’Schoto | Damon Styer | Enamel Kingdom | Heather | Diane Hardison | Jimmy “Spike” Birmingham | Josh Luke | Ken Davis | Kenji Nakayama | Pickles | Ted Kiley | Will Lynes | Will Sears
