Went There

Went There: 11/3 The Breeders, Flasher @ Sinclair

by

Openers Flasher from Washington DC, take influence from early 80’s lofi indie and post punk. Their rhythm section reminds me of fellow D.C. Band and former label mates, Priests. As they played on more songs leaned towards a 90s alt rock sound. These guys and girl cover all the decades!

Speaking of decades I’ve wanted to see The Breeders for 2 decades. This was my first time seeing Kim Deal in person. I saw the Pixies a couple years ago but it was just after Deal left. They did a career spanning set which included most of their landmark album Last Splash. As you may know their current lineup is the same lineup from when Last Splash came out in 1993. They also did a few songs from the highly underrated 1995 Amps album Pacer.

For those who don’t remember, The Amps was a short lived band formed by the Deal sisters during The Breeders hiatus in the mid 90’s. They continued to blow through a bunch of songs until the encore which was one of the highlights for me. They even played Pixies classic Gigantic which is one of my favorite songs by that band.

Since Kim’s departure from Pixies I never thought that song would be performed live again. As long as Kim Deal is singing and playing bass, that song will always be great. The Deal sisters are always gracious and happy to be back playing in the Boston area.
