Went There

Went There: 8/15 Gold Muse, 28 Degrees Taurus, Kelly Spyglass @ O’briens

by

It was a Deep Heaven Now reunion of sorts at O’Brien’s Wednesday Night. Members of all three acts performing tonight have played multiple Deep Heaven Now fests in the past. For those who don’t know, Deep Heaven Now was a local psych/shoegaze fest that took place in Somerville in the late 2000’s through the early 2010’s. Kelly Spyglass opened up the evening playing solo with only an acoustic guitar. I originally knew her from her band Amber Spyglass. Her solo songs are a gothic, dark tinged psychedelic folk.

Congratulations to Karina from 28 Degrees Taurus on the birth of her first child recently. Though, this did mean that mean she was unable to perform tonight with the band which she co-founded. 28DT was more like 14 Degrees Taurus with only Jinsen and a drummer. They still shoegazed but in a more minimal sense than usual, one woman down and all as they were. Worthy of note, Jinsen handled the vocal duties just fine.

The shoegaze superdupergroup Gold Muse headlined. They consist of members of the Swirlies, Soccer Mom and other local groups. They alternated between upbeat and slower tempo songs with loud reverb’d shoegaze guitar. I would basically say that their sound and performance combined the sounds of the late 80’s/early 90’s sounds of the Boston alt/indie scene and the shoegaze scene overseas from the same period.
