CAVE BEARS is mostly Nick Williams, maybe always only Nick Williams for some time now, and as 2014 dawns? He is the last of what once was a prideful species. But seriously, his situation is a rarified one. I’ve seen this guy get up in front of an audience and just flow many times now. A few times I’ve wanted to kill myself (and not in a good way) during his sets, but the vast majority of these experiences have been strange and entertaining, or maybe just strangely entertaining. Nick’s brain is a swift one, and his ability to pull together threads from his performance environment and incorporate them into his silly string theory of performance art is impressive. To me at least. His was the set that got the ball rolling for the whole weekend. Sadly, it’s not a complete video, so you’ll have to keep waiting for the gripping conclusion. Sorry. Tomfoolery. Ok. Nonsense, well yeah sure. But this is high level tomfoolery and nonsense. The simple fact that there are not more people performing in realms approximate to that of CAVE BEARS should tell you something about the special nature of this kind of improvisation.
