Last night may have well been an electronic festival at the Smokey Bear Cave. 8 Acts performed tonight. I got caught up in some bullshit and missed the first act LSDV (Sorry dudes). I have seen them before at Wierdo Records and can say in the least, one hell of a performance! Two dudes mixing VHS tapes on a projector, its totally trippy and completely worth your time. When I finally got myself to the house, I was just in time to catch ANDELAY GOOD laying out a deep electronic set with a mint condition 606 ( really not sure how she managed to get ahold of one of those, she told me ebay but I don’t believe her). Put me in a dance, a real knob twiddler. Change of mood when BELARISK lights up some candles, putting me in a toally spooky vibe (I hope that’s what he was going for). He slides into an ambient set with interluding chaos using a Virus C and a tape deck (also he was playing with something under his pulpit that I couldn’t see, totally spooooky). Snuffing the candles the set changes up again; UNGUENT brings a table of odd objects (and a eurorack modular) to the stage (designated corner of the basement). The madness of modular patching came in as total normacy when this guy started throwing this weird goo around (sorry did not occur to me at the time that I should be taking pictures of the goo, but for real that shit was weird as fuck). MINCEMEAT OR TENSPEED brought up a harder style (not hard style) house set. Was definantly digging the 909 samples on this one. Real dancable stuff, enjoyed myself quit a bit in the duration. Now I have seen some weird shows in this city, but none like SPIRITUAL RECESS. He had this sort of comical electronic style where he would act out a situation and use music to express what he might be saying (often times as if he were cursing, hilarious). Had me laughing my ass off the whole set (especially when he straight up took his gear and started throwing it around the place). L. LEWIS blew my mind – who knows, he could be the next Venetian snares. Unfortunately the pictures I took of him are before he started as I had to run and catch the train. I missed W00dy as well but I talked to her a bunch and she seemed super cool so her music probably is too.
