I enjoyed a mostly acoustic night at DEEP THOUGHTS JP. My lord and savior, the $3 70’s/80’s rock bin hath blessed me with the Emerson Lake & Palmer banger Trilogy. Always bring a couple extra bucks with you when seeing a show at DT.
Opener SOFT EYES of New Hampshire played an acoustic set. He exhibited lots of attitude, with great compositions in that lovely country style of his. Changing it up with electric guitars, Portland, Maine’s S.S. CRETIN delivered a helter skelter set that got a nice dance pit going. Ending their stage time with a gnarly Sabbath cover and guitar solo, their performance went great inbetwixt two acoustic guitar players.
Finally DANIEL BACHMAN brought this show back to the acoustic realm, which was nice, because after you’ve been dancing your ass off you get to sit down and relax. People need to start booking this kind of alternating electric-acoustic show more often. You can tell Daniel Bachman is a talented guy because he comes up on stage with a steel lap guitar and a bud heavy. He played a great acoustic set of Fahey or Basho-style american primitivist pickings. It was truly relaxing, allowing me the mental space for some lurid thoughts. Really enjoyed this show, hope to see more like it in the future.
