NYC’s unbelievably furious Warthog is back with another hard-hitting 7″, this time from the great Iron Lung Records. Warthog is filthy, hard, and dark hardcore in the lineage that goes back to early Poison Idea, so you know that they can rage like no other. But there’s also a darker atmosphere on here that makes this sound their own, especially in the great guitar work that sometimes takes the stage among the mean riffing. It’s hard to pick a favorite on here, as all three tracks are top-notch and all stand-out from each other; “Exterminate Me” is fast as hell after a heavy intro, with some more esoteric guitar work at the end; “Feral” is slower, stomping, and ugly with a just plain great riff; and closer “Control” starts off as more of controlled explosion than a song before going into a slow, mean riff with some psyched-out guitar work. Prison is some of the most satisfying punk that’s come out this year, so don’t sleep on this one.
