VIA APP did not move to Boston from her pleasant home of South Carolina to fuck around. She came to win. Or something else, I don’t know why she moved. But on her newest track, the first from her forthcoming Dangerous Game release for Vancouver, BC-based 1080p, the artist currently known as Dylan Scheer surely seems primed for the attack.
Dangerous Game is the first official release from the 20-year-old Scheer I can track down, and premiere track “I Came To Win” reeks of a killer style. Basic, out-step rhythms dose out the intro, with rattling percussion refusing to quantize, phasing in and out of the songs periphery. Voices interrupt, piano melodies emerge, and, eventually, static conquers, with the track erupting into the kind of noise ecstasy that the recent developments in brutal rhythms have been hinting at for so long. Thanks for taking us there, Ms. Scheer.
1080p is letting this thing fly free on September 16th – catch VIA APP at Club Bohemia for Scanners on 9/11 with Outmode and Profligate.
