The debut record from the Bay Area’s Umbilical Cord, out now on Video Disease Records, shows area stalwarts in fine form. The band features members of Ecoli and Yadokai, and takes a weirder approach to hardcore more akin to Ecoli/Yadokai sideprojects like Snuff Film and The Delicacies Of Consuming Human Flesh. Umbilical Cord has a nearly psychedelic sound that still manages to be manic and aggressive. Demented vocals and frantic drumming really make the record stand out. If you are a fan of these projects already, this will be right up your alley, and even if you aren’t the four tracks of this 7” are odd and inventive enough to draw in most listeners.
