One of the most bummer things about residing in New England is living so close to the ocean, yet only being able to indulge in swimming, surfing, and other highly enjoyable beach-related pursuits for a few months each year. This is also the very glory of surf-rock, I suppose, since you can blast a Dick Dale record regardless of season and transport yourself to those hot and sunny summer memories whenever you want.
So, if you’re into surf-rock, add some tracks from Boston’s Tsons of Tsunami to your playlist. Featuring members of Guerilla Toss and Cowboy Band, Tsons of Tsunami is the real deal when it comes to old-school-style surf rock. Fearless Riders of the Holy Curl is their latest effort, recently released on local BUFU Records. The Tsons have the chops that it takes to nail this kind of music (because in case you haven’t heard, perfecting a surf lick ain’t easy), and they’ve written some pretty killer tunes–like the cleverly named “Quest for Crest”– to boot. Check out their cover of the surf-rock classic “Miserlou” (originally by Dick Dale), or, if you’re looking for something seasonally apropos, their rendition of “Silent Night” is pretty sick. And “Surfin’ Story” is on point if you need a chuckle or two.
