Toupée — “Mommy is a Mummy”

by

“Dysmorphic culture chomps you into bits,” the band says. “Apply lacquer—there is no escape.” Like the band’s name indicates, the demands of the world push beauty at any cost. The video follows this theme with horrifying results. As frontwoman Whitney Allen stares in the mirror and corrects her perceived imperfections, the dizzying sequence reflects the never ending quest for manufactured beauty.

The composition is tense from the start with the collisions of frantic drums and ringing guitars. The video sprawls into a gothic nightmare of blush and caked on flesh. Allen’s own efforts to change are fruitless.

“Mommy Is A Mummy appears on Toupee‘s latest album, Leg Toucher, which is out on Moniker Records.
