THEE OH SEES – “DROP”

by

The prolific psych-pop vets THEE OH SEES are back again, despite previous mentions of a hiatus, and we’re all the better for it. The last few releases have seen the often primal garage stomp of their cathartic live shows make way for more soothing textures and overtly pop-inflected songwriting. “DROP,” the title track of their new record released last month on CASTLE FACE RECORDS (and already sold out on the site), offers us a rather clear-eyed and straightforward version of the clever songcraft expected of John Dwyer and company. The guitars are crisp, the rhythm section bouncy and agile, and the vivid production let’s everything shine in an invigorating glow. Eventually Dwyer’s maxed-out fuzz pedals rip in and don’t let go. The monochromatic psychedelia of the electrifying visuals in the video (By Arthur Carvalho) help put us in the right state of mind to embrace the movement and relaxed attack of “Drop.” Enjoy.
