The Minneapolis Uranium Club Band — Human Exploration

by

While there isn’t much information about the band available online, The Minneapolis Uranium Club — also known as The Uranium Club, The Minneapolis Uranium Club, and The Uranium Club And Sunbelt Chemical Corporation (TM) — features members of Solid Attitude and the almighty NERV, and play a style of punk that sounds like a goofier version of Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! The songs are off-kilter, odd, and catchy as hell. If you weren’t excited just from the mention of NERV, I don’t know what to say. The Minneapolis Uranium Club Band hang in the space between late ’70s punk and early ’80s post-punk without becoming imitative of either. The overall vibe of the demo is something akin to that of Wire covering the Weirdos, only weirder. This is a record that would feel right at home on It’s War Boys. Angular, minimalist, irreverent, and fun, this is a highly recommended demo for anyone who likes their punk rock a little left of center.

Tapes are long gone — both the self-released version from 2014 as well as 2015’s reissue on Lumpy Records. Fashionable Idiots returned from the grave to release a 12” version of the demo for The Minneapolis Uranium Club Band, which is still available in various distros around the internet. Keep your eyes peeled for further insanity from a band that proves the devolution is still going strong.
