Can you really have too much sunny, lo-fi indie-pop? The answer (at least in this author’s opinion) is a resounding “no!”, especially when it’s as good as The Foetals’ “Fine”. Pensive but ebullient, “Fine” takes a simple ’60s pop-style melody and gives it the alt-pop lo-fi treatment. The result is a song that’s sweet, but not too saccharine, and just a little bit weird. It’s vaguely reminiscent of White Fence’s more accessible tunes.
The brainchild of Jolan Lewis (see also: Pink Teens, Temple Songs), The Foetals come to us from Manchester, UK via the London/Stockholm-based Punk Slime Recordings label. Keep your ears peeled for The Foetals’ debut full-length, Meet The Foetals, coming out this fall. While you wait, stream “Fine” below.
