Remember that time members of Brown Sugar and Rational Animals got together and made the best new band in the Rochester/Buffalo area? And what d’you know, two years later they’ve dropped their debut LP, Welcome To Heck, on Media Schlitz. It is safe to say the six tracks on this album do not disappoint. Welcome To Heck is one of the best examples of the Rotcore sound that has yet been birthed. Off-kilter punk and rock’n’roll blend and explode through the speakers into 2016’s most KISS-soaked banger. Hard rock riffs for days propel Tapehead but Cameron Dean’s vocals, with his anguished, jackhammer staccato, really make the band stand out. Tapehead might not be reinventing the wheel, but well-crafted, catchy punk songs devoid of gimmick or prevailing trend are more than enough to suffice. Raise your cans of Genee Cream and welcome in the new order of rock’n’roll. And while you’re at it, check out the million other bands these folks have been involved in.
